Project ¡Adelante!
Helping the children of Roatán move forward in life

The children on the island need help in three major ways to have hope for a bright future: Education, Self-Worth and Physical Health.

Education: There are two main educational options on the island: public schools, with standards far below what is necessary to earn a decent living; and private "bilingual" schools that are too expensive for most islanders to afford. Culturally, education is widely considered not to be a priority here and school is "mandatory" (though not enforced) only to the 6th grade. View the "Vision 2020 Report".

Self-Worth: Unfortunately, the culture on the island is largely that of generation after generation of broken homes where children grow up not knowing one, or sometimes either, of their parents. In many homes there is little, if any, family structure or discipline. As a result, children grow up without experiencing the unconditional love that breeds confidence and self-worth.

Physical Health: Many of the children on the island have no regular contact with doctors or dentists. Further, there is no major, working hospital on the island and the one that does exist experiences serious and frequent sanitation issues.

All children deserve a chance to live the life God created them to have. For the children in Roatán, here is how you can partner with us to make that happen (click on any category to see more details):

  1. Bilingual School Fund - raising scholarships for children who qualify to attend the higher level bilingual schools for a better education.
  2. Mentorship Program - connecting individuals or small groups with a specific child to develop one-on-one relationships for mentoring and letting the child know that someone cares about them.
  3. General Donations - we always welcome general financial donations, clothing, school supplies, medical supplies, etc. 100% of which will go to directly benefit children on the island of Roatán.
  4. College Scholarship Fund - it is our goal to raise enough funds to send deserving children who qualify to college or university with the hopes they would bring their knowledge and expertise back to the island to further improve life for the islanders.

In all four categories, 100% of your donation goes directly to help a child on the island.
